Critical Skills
History is NOT what happened in the past. Rather, history is how we understand, interpret and make meaning of what happened in the past. This means that the study of history, inevitably, is an interpretive process. As a result, the practice of history is all about constructing your own interpretations and evaluating the interpretations of others. Thus, argument, the persuasive expression of an interpretation or a critique thereof, is at the center of the study of history.
